Computed Tomography (CT or CAT)

Imaging exam based on X-rays, with computer reconstruction.

In CT exams, a device that combines X-rays with advanced computer technology is used to produce images of the human body, which will be printed on film and/or recorded on CD.

These images are then analyzed by radiologists who can diagnose various diseases and changes in the different organs and systems of the body (e.g., infections, inflammations, neoplasms, traumas, etc.).

This is an exam that provides much more information and allows for a more detailed study of the structures than simple X-rays.

In many cases, it may be necessary to administer a contrast agent, which will be swallowed and/or injected into a vein, so that the exam is as complete and informative as possible.

At LagoaCentro, we perform, among others, the following CT exams:

 1. chest, abdomen, and pelvis;
 2. skull;
 3. spine;
 4. paranasal sinuses and maxillofacial;
 5. ears;
 6. bones and joints.

PREPARATION:

 1. Wear comfortable clothing.
 2. Remove metallic objects, such as jewelry, removable dental prostheses, clips, earrings, etc., as they may interfere with the exam.
 3. It may be necessary not to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to the exam, especially if a contrast injection is planned.
 4. You should also inform the doctor or radiology technician of any medications you are taking or allergies you have, as well as any heart diseases, asthma, diabetes, kidney or thyroid diseases, multiple myeloma, or pheochromocytoma.
 5. Women of childbearing age should always inform the doctor or technician if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
